You can but your flash drive is going to significantly slower than just scanning directly to a hard drive and then copying to flash drives. This scanner, depending on picture, could scan up to four copies of the photo to the same drive. It will scan an original picture, a cleaned up enhanced copy of the picture, a picture of the back if there is writing on it, and then a cleaned up, enhanced copy of the back. Scanning to your hard drive also follows the rules of backup. Keep the original on your computer, keep a copy on a thumb drive or USB drive, and then have it back up to the cloud like Google drive or Amazon Photos.
