• Hello debbie. The ES-500W II can scan from desktop software and the physical scan button located on the machine itself. When you press the scan button, it will open the Epson ScanSmart software on your computer with your available settings. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.

• It does have a button on the front to initiate the scan. There are several options for configuration and setup wizard makes it pretty easy. My setup scans and give me a choice of where I’d like to place it (designated folder, email, etc)

• So, in other words, no- you have to use the software? It wont just scan to a specific folder when you hit the scan button on the scanner itself?
