“I purchased in December 2020 and it continuously uses the color ink to print even when i select grayscale or black and white. I keep having to replace the colored cartridges yet my black ink supply is high. Is it a defect? Can you help?”

Hi TexasIllinois, Epson printers, including the WF-3820, contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors for normal operation. A small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged, even when you're printing black text only. This prevents air bubbles from entering and damaging the print head itself.
