• Yes it has to be turned on to print from anything or anywhere else. Like turning on a light to see in the dark. lol

• Hello Nick. You do not have to manually power on the WF-3820 when it is in sleep mode. The printer will automatically boot up when you send a print job over. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.
