No you don't have to use the app every time after ur free year is up its 49.99 yearly or 4.99 a month.......most of the time I don't use the app I use another called Waze since more people seem to use and mark police on that gps app and yes the app does use ur data

Please try again later.The radar detector will function independently without the use of the app. The app itself will cost you around $50 a year and will use data when it is running. In my opinion $4 or so a month is worth the cost and you really get the full benefit from the Max 360. If that sounds like too much money Escort offers some other high quality detectors that don't have the app functionality.
