MAX 360 (firmware 1.5) Perfected Detector

My MAX 360 at firmware version 1.5 has proven to be a well refined detector with fantastic display features, working alert features and fairly decent range. Maybe not the "long ranger" for those flying at 100 MPH over a desolate highway in full darkness but, a true information center for the guy/gal who wants to get around heavy traffic and needs to be "aware" of all situations surrounding them. Escort finally got this one right, and it's a true pleasure to drive with. IVT CAS/BSM filtering is nearly bulletproof. Combined with automatic door sensor and speed sign lockouts (or user initiated manual lockouts), this detector stays quiet. The only thing you hear after lockout training in areas you routinely travel is something worth hearing. Visual display information using EXPERT FR Metering Mode, and BAND Arrow Mode, provides all the front and rear information you need...all with clear messaging. Add Escort Live to provide the posted speed limit information on the display, and Over Speed Limit Alert set to SPEED LIMIT, and you have it all. Total "situation awareness". I have looked closely at the MAX 360c, and prefer the operation and look of the MAX 360. However, if I were in the market for a permanent install detector, the MAX 360 Ci would be my choice. That one is also Radar Detector Detector immune, and has greater range with the larger antennas. The only thing both of these models would benefit from is MRCD detection. It has been reported to be used in Canada, as well as in Maryland and Southern New York. Like it or not, global technology is coming to the Americas. Here are the settings I prefer for maximum information: Device Settings - Radar Settings Sensitivity: Highway Brightness: Maximum Pilot: Full Word Metering Mode: Expert FR Arrow Mode: Band Auto Mute: High Audio Tones: Standard Plus ZR3 Mode: Off Voice: Off Auto Power: Two Hours Units: English GPS Filter: On Auto Learn: On Cruise Alert: 25 MPH Over Speed Alert: 75 MPH Language: English Display Color: Blue Speed on Display: On User Mode: Advanced Radar Settings - Band Settings Lazer: On POP: Off Ka Band: On K Band: On X Band: On (NJ, OH, OR) TSR: Off Marker Settings - Marker Settings Red Light Cameras: On Speed Cameras: On Speed Traps: On Other: On Red Lt Speed Cams: On Air Patrol: On Escort Live - General App Settings Background Updates: On Over Speed Limit Alrt: Speed Limit Overspeed Sound: Off Alert Style: Advanced Show Alerts For: 60 min This applies to firmware version 1.5. Other versions may require differing options but, this does it ALL for me. In conclusion, thank you Escort for such a well refined product. I highly recommend the MAX 360 (v 1.5) to anyone wanting "all the useful information, without all the noise". It works!

I have used many radar detectors for years and highly relied on my V1. Using or interpreting radar detectors is a bit of an art. Radar detectors, detect radar, but not all radar is police radar. The V1 generally considered the industry leader for years is not only a great detector it was the only one with radar direction arrows. When the detector goes off, you not only know your in the presence of radar, you know generally where it’s coming from. This information allows you to determine whether this is police radar or another radar source like the blind spot monitoring system on most any Cadillac, Honda, Acura, GMC, Buick and others. Unfortunately, the V1 has been getting worse at filtering out these non-police radar sources and alerts frequently(yes it has up-to-date “junk-k fighter”). I purchased my first Escort 360 (I now have 3)because of the radar direction arrows and several reviews. I have compared both my V1 and the 360 side by side in my vehicle in real world driving for couple of months. I found the 360 to generally alert about 1-2 seconds before the V1 in general use (mostly highway). Non-police radar (blind spot) alerts generally do not occur and are shorter and weaker when they happen. I’d say the 360 false alerts about 5x less. Stationary radar sources, security alarms, intersection monitors, etc, can be automatically or manually locked out which is a bonus. The direction arrows are SLOW when changing source direction and the detector itself is kinda big. The Escort live is a nice feature, how ever not always accurate if police radar in moving instead of stationary. Escort live being a user based app should not be $50 a year, $9.99-19.99 would be more appropriate for what you get. Now if I could only get Uniden to make the R3 DSP with arrows, we’d have a new game.

Where to begin? Quite honestly, this is the best radar detector out there. I conducted extensive research before making the investment of buying a detector. Pretty much anonymously all of the sources confirmed that the Escort Max 360 is indeed the best radar detector on the market. The Escort Live app on my iPhone made the customization process extremely easy to setup my Max 360 the way I liked it. Once it was all dialed in, this detector has blown me away. My dad owns the Escort 9500ix detector (which is a fantastic detector) but my max 360 blows it away. The range is effective to about 3 miles out and is incredibly accurate, the notification noises are effective but not annoying, the GPS filter works extremely well for locking out non-threats, and the Escort live app works great for notifying a threat before the radar is in range. I also love that there are updates available from Escort. I immediately updated my detector and the directional arrows are very very responsive. I agree that $650 is a pretty steep investment for a detector, but you can't put a value on piece of mind. When driving with a detector, I personally find myself more aware to what is going on ahead of me instead of searching in constant paranoia for a possible patrolman. While I do not drive at concerning speeds, It is nice knowing I can prevent a speeding ticket and insurance rate hikes by having this detector mounted (with a fantastic and secure magnetic mount by the way) I am free to focus on the actual driving experience. If you drive a car and do not live in the two restricted areas (i want to say Virginia and Washington D.C.) where detectors are illegal, buy the Escort Max 360!!

Dropped my 4 year old Escort 9500ix and broke it, which was the unfortunate but perfect excuse to finally upgrade to the Max360. I was surprised by the larger and heavier form factor, but I'm guessing the additional antennas required for the directional arrows are a major culprit. The mounting cup, with its angle adjustment screw is a major upgrade over previous mounts. I could previously run my daily routes in Highway mode on my 9500ix with the GPS filtering taking care of all the unwanted interference, but around town the Max360 in Highway mode is chirping with a lot more frequency, particularly with all the new car technology that uses onboard radar (adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, etc.). The directional arrows make it easy to interpret when a passing vehicle is the culprit, or when radar reflection was to blame. A switch to auto mode, took out 90% of the false alerts as the GPS system learns the fixed locations. In my opinion, Waze makes the EscortLive system useless, as Waze's much larger user base gives you a more accurate view of police activity, albeit without the pre-warning of which radar band to be looking at. Waze is free however, while Escort still wants to charge you for their EscortLive network. All in all, very happy. Suggest you price check the major online only retailer, as it allowed me to save $100 with BestBuy's price match and still apply some gift cards.

Used on my trip Boston, MA to Williams in a red corvette convertible. It detected both speed traps on route 2 very accurately and well in advance. And the in-motion radar they use sometimes when they drive. It also detects stationary signs like: "Your Speed Is" and "Construction Ahead" (weird that those are radar you). False positives come from nearby cars with lane change IR radar, but just hit the MUTE button to silence them. Once in a while I'll get a sourceless radar signal in the same place - maybe from a really powerful IR radar motion detector floodlight? and some CVS automatic door radar seems to set it off as you drive by. I was going to return it to get a K40 under hood detector/jammer that plugs direct into my Kenwood, but I just love how easy this is to use and with the 25$ hard wire power cord outsiders can barely see it under the rear view even when the roof is down. I put a black tape over the Escort logo to be more discreet and deter theft. I got the 70$ 2 year coverage which allows return during that period to get your money back (minus the 70 of course). But I like this so much because you can use it in rental cars also! Oh, and I even DROPPED it on concrete and the face plate popped off. I put it back and it continues to work flawlessly. I bought mine for 700$ (including the extra 70 and sales tx) and it's still a deal. I don't see what the difference the new 360c is besides wireless connect. Everyone's got a laptop, right? Plugging a USB wire to update the detector is no big. Good luck and have fun!

just bought my Max 360 couple of days ago. These 2 days I drove a lot around the city.....numerous police cars crossed me from opposite direction, the well equipped ones, traffic ones,....not one alarm signal from my detector. Broken?....NO, I own before several radar detectors, including so acclaimed 8500, 9500 ix.....they all went back to the store after 1-2 weeks. I start to wander who writes all these exceptional reviews cause I use to read a lot before buying a product and that's how I ended up giving escort another chance. Everyone talks about how great these late ones are eliminating false alarms...and I agree with that, or how it tells you that you're driving over speed limit...thanks...I know that already. BUT HOW MANY REVIEWS TELL YOU HOW YOUR DETECTOR DETECTS POLICE CARS THAT CAN GET YOU AND GIVE YOU A TICKET..... cause in only 2 days I could've get at least 5-6 tickets if I was to only trust the very fine Max 360 I own. I need a detector cause I constantly drive fast and I got too many speeding tickets over the years, last one 3 month ago in Canada using a friend's Valentine detector..... I'm giving up searching for a detector, either their technology is intentionally left behind police's, or else. My Max 360 is going back to the store. Ah, by the way....minutes ago I was trying to register my product with Escort so maybe I can benefit from that firmware update the reviews are talking,,,,guess what?...the registering page just won't work,,it keeps saying incorrect username/ password without giving you details. I am a computer savvy, usually I figure stuff out, not this one, I called the number on the screen just to find out no one available.... Escort, you need a revolution and products up to date. .....and you ,,Happy oners'' enjoy further your great Max 360 being so quiet in town and elswere...so quiet that won't detect the main reason it was created for....police cars that can get you. I still hope I may get back with better feed back in a week or two but i'm already skeptical.

Fairly new to radars detectors after many years. I can say I am very impressed with the look and design and quality of the new Max 360 (purchased 8/2017). The review mirror mount is really awesome and seems to be sturdy as well. That really keep the detector out if the way and looks great. Be-sure to take your time when installing it the 1st time. I learned the hard way and had to redo my installation, very frustrating. I drive 65+ highway miles and about 20 in city miles daily and always run the detector in either highway or auto No X mode. Seems to have a lot of K band faults while on the highway mode or either I am not seeing the smokies...which drives me crazy, but I am still learning how to use this device. Getting more than I like X band alerts and k band alerts while in the city or ( auto no x mode), but hope to learn how to get rid of those soon. It's a toy for me right now, but it has slowed me down and actually made a better driver. I also seem to be more aware of want I am doing and that is good sense there are so many stupid drivers out there. I like the Max 360 because it has a lot of extra features. Not everything you can get in a detect, but a great start for a newbie. Get one you will love it!

I have an Escort Redline that works great, but I wanted to upgrade to something with GPS and directional arrows. This model has those features and a better display too. There are more options and settings this one has that I'm sure I'll grow to appreciate. But I really dislike the look and feel of the thing. The Redline is compact, solid and feels high quality (it's cast aluminum I think). But this Max 360 is all plastic and much larger without the high-end beefy feel (although, it is actually heavier). They added a chrome decorative strip around the top and chromed buttons and it just seems cheesy. It's just too big all around. Buttons are huge, everything is. The other really frustrating thing is the windshield mount. The older models used the "supercup" mount that was infinitely adjustable. The new mount this came with is magnetic, which is cool, but it adjusts up and down only at certain pre-set angles. Because of the angle of my X5's windshield it's not possible to install perfectly level. I'd probably just get the Valentine One or stick with the Redline if I did this over again.

I had an old Cobra radar detector since forever, and it quit working outta nowhere. A police officer was nice enough to notify me that it had failed with a big fat citation. I purchased this unit before going on vacation the following month. It works very well and provides an adequate warning with K, Ka X bands, Laser was a little different because the thing went off as I stared down is cruiser in the center of the highway just over a small hill. I think the guy pulsed me and that's why it did not show up till then. The GPS has allowed me to have it ignore the radar sign in a construction zone I pass through daily and is a great option. The software for Escort Live is a little squirrely at times. When you exit or enter the highway you get false Overspseed warnings, Another quirk in the software is that you can set a location of interest and when you get near a voice alert will say you have arrived, and then as you drive away the voice alert will say you have arrived again even though the GPS shows your distance is increasing. I do like the voice and visual warnings that police are in the area or a traffic camera is ahead, and to my surprise there are a lot of people with this software app issuing police warnings. So that is a big help. This is my first purchase from Escort ... The unit is very well made, but I have noticed I am already getting some vibration on my magnetic coupling to the windshield, so I'm not too excited about that feature as it's only a few months old.

The Escort Smart Cord - Direct Wire has key features which include mute button, alert led and power led on an inline module. It is compatible with current detector models such as Passport 8500 X50, Passport 8500, Solo S2 and Passport 7500S. It also fits the earlier detectors like the Passport 7500 and Passport 6800. From the Manufacturer The direct wire SmartCord accessory is a unique power cord with a power-on indicator, an alert LED lamp that warns you of radar and laser, and a convenient mute button. Users wire the cord directly into the vehicle fuse panel, and then mount the display module within arm's reach. It's the perfect addition for any driver who might have trouble reaching the detector's mute button on the windshield. The SmartCord also features a dark mode for discreet night driving, so other drivers won't know you have a detector. The direct wire SmartCord is compatible with contemporary Escort Passport 8500 X50, Solo S2, and Passport 7500S models, along with earlier Passport 8500, 7500, and 6800 detectors.

Best Radar Detector Owned So Far

Based upon my experience, this is the best radar detector I have owned so far. My first radar detector was a Radio Shack unit in 1980, so I have been using these things for a while. Though this detector is not the most sensitive out there, there is a balance between false alarms and sensitivity. This detector generally gives me about a mile advance notice. That is plenty of time to check your speed, and make sure you didn't accidentally get going too fast (big smile). I really like how it shows the direction of the radar, allowing you to know if you are having a persute vehicle coming from behind, or a radar check on an entrance ramp. So far, I have only used it through one laser trap, and it must have worked with enough notice. I never saw any gum balls. I really like how it memorizes those false alarms, and after three hits, locks them into a silence mode. I also like the bluetooth connection to the cell, which is great for quick control of the unit and seeing a map of what is ahead. I will not say this unit is a 5 star since it is big and heavy, but the window bracket is really good too. My past Beltronics could be attached to the sun visor or head liner, but this one needs more to keep it from shaking or sliding. I tried using one of those dashbags to mount the Max 360 unit and had to catch it in the air as I went around a corner. So, the window mount is where it is at, and I hate window mounts!! There is no mirror mount for my car, and I feel the unit is too heavy to clamp to the rear view mirror itself. The good and bad based upon my experience, but the plus out weighs the minus in my opinion.

If you love constant false K Band alerts buy it!

I purchased this radar detector 8 days ago based on my past good experiences with Escort radars. Spending over $600 for a radar detector is not something I took lightly. However, I decided to buy the best that Escort had to offer. WOW WAS I DISAPPOINTED! Good thing I found a YouTube video to help me figure out how to program it. Had to use my cell phone. Why not an easier way??? The first 20 miles I drove with this new radar detector on I got over 50 false K band alerts....every vehicle with anti-collusion equipment set it off. Stores with automatic doors set it off. I had the setting on "Highway" so I changed it to "Auto" which is supposed to be less sensitive to reduce false alerts. This did not help in the least. On our drive from Pittsburgh to Orlando the K Band alert went off literally 100's of times before I got 2 hours into the trip. Finally after the entire family was sick of the radar alert going off constantly after passing every truck I just turned the piece of junk off. What good is a radar detector that has soooo many false alerts you ignore its alerts all together or you get so annoyed and frustrated you just turn it off? As soon as I get back, this over-priced, under-performing radar detector is going back to Best Buy for a refund. As far as Escort goes, I have lost all respect for them and future products they may produce.

I love the fact that it tells me which direction the radar signal is coming from and the autolock out of identical repeatable signals is fantastic. The voice prompts are or not as good as my old 9500ix and sound cheaply recorded it could also be the speaker in this unit. The new color display is a welcome change. The things that I don't like is the fact that it tells me that there's red light cameras while I'm on the expressway and tollway. And the unit itself is very large much bigger than the max and in my 9500ix. I am not disappointed with this purchase though I think the price point was a little high. They really need to fix the false red light camera alerts while you're on the expressway though it's pointing to red light cameras that are off the expressway that I'm passing and it's a little annoying. It would also be good if you could lock out laser signals because there are some toll booths that set off the laser alert, this is also the same problem with my 9500ix. The redline may be a little more sensitive than this unit but as I don't use it to prevent speeding tickets I just like to know my surroundings it's still an excellent product and I would recommend it. If you are a speeder and you want the best protection against getting a ticket get the redline better yet don't speed at all and follow flow of traffic everyone else is speeding anyway.

This is a really good radar detector, and it has already saved me on several occasions. Used in combination with Waze, it can be a very powerful tool. I wasn't sold on the directional arrows at first but I have found them quite useful. There are a bunch of customizable settings to set it up for beginner or advanced users. The GPS auto-learn technology works well, as I've seen it in action 3-4 times around town. The mounting suction cup was a breeze to install and actually stays put on the windshield, which is nice. The drawbacks are that even with auto-learn there are still a ton of false alarms, especially if you have it on highway mode. I drove 700 miles mostly interstate and the thing was constantly bringing up K band alerts every time I drove by a nice car with blind spot monitors. I believe Auto mode corrects some, but not all of this, but then you lose a little distance versus the highway mode. I also noticed the laser alert pop up on a few occasions where I'm 99% sure I was not being targeted by an officer with a laser. Overall I will deal with the false alarms to have the extra protection against tickets. Hopefully they continue updating the software (which you can update via a USB cable on your computer) to continue to fine tune and minimize false alerts.

At first I was in love with this radar detector, because of the capability of letting you know what direction the radar was coming from. I did a comparison with my 10 year old Beltronics 965. I had both attached to the dash at the same time. The big problem with the escort is it has too many false alerts and it was very annoying. When you have the escort connected to the cell by Bluetooth, it picks up the current speed limit in the area you are driving and also shows you your current speed and lets you know your going over the limit. But if you are talking on the phone on the car whenever it gets an alert it comes over the speakers and interrupts the call. Both radar detectors did pick up the same signals. The reason I was interested in the escort was the ability to let you know the direction the radar was coming from. Over time the escort is supposed to learn which alerts were false and over time would diminish. I used it for more than thirty days and the false alerts seemed to increase. In my opinion the escort is not worth the money with all the false alerts and because of this, I returned it. I will continue to use my old faithful Beltronics until escort comes out with something new and improved or I read that they have corrected the issue.

I replaced an Escort 9500ix with this detector and couldn't be happier. I love the directional arrows and the app for the phone is very useful as well. It has a much improved windshield mount that connects with the detector with a magnetic link. The suction cup to the window is great as well. I loved my 9500ix for years but due to all of the cars with advanced monitoring systems had noticed some false alarms that I thought were due to those. Just today with my new detector an alert with an arrow from behind came up and when the newer car passed me the arrow went to the side and then in front of me. It of course is also nice to know where the officer with the radar is. It has been very accurate in the two months that I have owned it. I also love that when it is connected to the app it will tell you the posted speed limit (and if you are over it). Very nice feature when driving through towns that I am not familiar with. Great detector. The only down side is the price but I have driven over 600 miles a week for three and a half years and have gotten no tickets. Considering that both the 9500ix and the Max 360 are well worth the price!

First of all, I don’t speed. Not much anyway. But occasionally, I slip up. A recent ticket before this purchase cost me almost as much as this radar detector did. It would have saved me that ticket and has already saved many more. This Escort Max 360 is very user friendly. It lets you know when radar is in the area with plenty of time to make any adjustments to your speed. Granted, I have read that the Uniden R3 may provide slightly farther distance when it comes to radar notification, but what difference does it make if you’re being notified 3000 feet or 2500 feet. Either way, this unit sees the radar signal (police) long before I do. When u add escort live, u have the most comprehensive early warning notification system available. Nothing comes close. I have ZERO regrets. It’s already paid for itself!

I expected better for this kind of money. First the mute is useless, regardless where I set the mute, high to low, It makes no noticeable difference in volume. And the setting "high to low" what does this mean. If set to high does this mean its the highest mute or the highest volume when muted. Second the screen is to small. Now my eyes are not what they used to be, but even with glasses I cannot easily read the type of radar pinging me. Next is voice alert, I like voice alert because I can't easily read the screen so it's nice to hear what band is pinging you and you don't have to try and read the device to be sure. This detectors voice alert will continuously, about every 2 minutes or so, say your over the speed limit if you turn on voice alert. If I wanted to stay under the speed limit I wouldn't need a detector would I. I drive like a lot of people 5 to 10 over and I don't want to my detector telling me every 2 minutes to slow down.

Upon purchasing a new car, I was on the lookout for getting a radar detector and dashcam setup (I do this for every car). I already have a ton of experience with these items, and own 3x 9500's and a Max. The one thing missing from these detectors was the directional arrows, something that the Valentine V1 seemed to have a patent for. Then the Max 360 was released, and wow, it is definitely worth the premium price. Its quite a large detector, but they really nailed it this time. The mount is magnetic, and very study (compared to the wobble from other Escort detectors). The directional arrows allow me to personally filter out false alarms, such as the K bands from driver assist technology in recent cars, since I can see that the direction is coming from in front of me, with a relatively weak signal. Or when a car comes to a stop behind me at a stoplight, as they get closer, the signal gets stronger. DEFINITELY worth the premium. Esp with the GPS warnings for red-light cameras, etc.

All in all this is an "okay" radar detector. Detection was good (no tickets!). But I'd say there are some improvements that are needed: 1. Every time you exceed the speed limit, it says "over speed limit." Well... no $%!& Sherlock, that's why I bought this. There is an option to turn off this alert, but it doesn't actually turn the alert off. So that's dumb. 2. The alert for speed traps and active lasers needs to have some sort of time reference. I was alerted about 20 times to active laser and speed traps over the course of a few hours and never actually saw a patrol unit. If the speed trap was 2 hours ago, I'm probably not lifting my foot. If it was 10 minutes ago, that is meaningful. So - no tickets on a long trip (25+ hours of driving), but the annoyance of a constant speeding alert and alerts for active police units where there are not any makes this a return-able product for me.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
