It links the GPS of the unit to a map which you see on your phone. I'm not sure I see a huge benefit in this, but it also sends and receives info about speed traps etc. That can be very useful.

To show you live where the speed traps are. Red light cameras by using your phones GPS and Bluetooth. Another feature is that it shows the speed limits on most roads and warns you if you are speeding 5 miles over. This feature only works with a smartphone only. If I don't connect my phone the street speed limit stays at 70Mph. However your current speed shows on the radar detector without the phone. Also you can help the escort community when you see a cop hiding somewhere that looks like trap you can add it so everyone else will get alerted.
