Basically it works like most other robot mop/vacuum machines that have spinning pads. The machine can either vacuum and mop together at the same time, or you can setup the software via the app to do each separately. Either way, the machine downloads some water from the main reservoir into a holding tank in the robot and lays a bit of it down via the mops onto the floor. The mops spin to clean the floor. At some point in time, the robot will announce it needs to return to it's home. It will upload the dirty water, download clean water and rinse/wash the mop pads. And then it leaves the house to return to it's cleaning. Pretty slick!

Mopping Water Flow and Settings: Some models allow users to pre-set water levels for mopping and control how often the robot returns to its base station to wash and clean the mop during operations. Modes include mopping by room or duration for optimal cleaning. Edge-Hugging Mopping: Some robots offer an Edge-Hugging Mopping mode to ensure thorough cleaning along walls and corners, reducing blind spots. Hands-Free Cleaning: Advanced models like the X9 Pro include features for automatic dampening, washing, and drying of mop pads. After mopping, the pads are cleaned in the dock station and dried with hot air to prevent bacteria or odors for the next cleaning. Important Notes: The mopping feature is not suitable for deep cleaning or stubborn stains and is designed for secondary cleaning of already vacuumed areas. The Auto-empty function of the vacuum may not work when the mopping module is installed.
