Yes its an upgrade and should work just fine. This gpu by itself will crush what you currently have.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It has 1 DVI-D port, 1 Display Port, and 1 HDMI. It can support 3 monitors using those (directly or split cables). It's probably the highest end graphics card I would use with your setup before considering a motherboard upgrade. It uses a PCI Express 3 x16 full length slot. You have PCI Express 2.0 x16. It's backward compatible but you should be fine as an upgrade. You will notice no performance hit because of this. It interfered with a SATA power connection on my system and the SATA connection had to be moved to another power port. I'd check internally to see if you'll have any issues. Probably not if you already have 2 Geforce 9800s in there. It only needs bus power. No external power connections. You will see an improvement with higher memory rendering such as high detail MMORPG with many characters on the screen
