I played the original version of the game back when I was 8 years old. It was basically the only video game I was able to play for a good year or since games weren't as plentiful or available as a kid and I loved it. But having said all that, this realistically isn't a good game for a 5 year old. Or even good when I was 8. Still won't mean he or she wouldn't enjoy it, but I'd go with something else. If you want your kid to tryout RPGs, you may want to look into a game called Child of Light. It's an easy to play RPG that's nearly all in rhyming verse and comes off just like a storybook. Amano, one of the lead designers of Final Fantasy games, helped with its visuals and artwork as well.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes and no. Yes because it is an amazingly beautiful and faithful re-adaptation the highly awarded original, storywise and graphically. And No, but only because of a minuscule amount of language and a short scene where the main character has to disguise himself, for a short time, in a dress. Its really up to you and what you feel is an "ok amount" to subject your kiddo to. Personally, i plan on pool playing through this slice of RPG heaven with my 3 year old when she turns 5.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Probably not - I am about 30 hours in, and there is a surprising amount of salty language for a Rated T game.
