When you power it up the first time, it will pair to your phone. After that if your phone rings, this phone makes a mechanical bell ringing noise. You pick up the handset to answer. To dial, pick up the handset and dial it like an old rotary phone. Once the call is in progress, the red button on the lower right will put it in speaker mode or you can use the handset.
