I questioned this, also, & called Fitbit cust service. The Charge 2 is a definite Upgrade, with improved technology. Just hold the Charge 2, close to your smartphone & watch it sync !

Good question! I use the one from my old fitbit. I noticed you can purchase one on the fitbit website.

So you can sync with a laptop or desktop.
