Yes. Just like Santa, it knows when I'm sleeping and when I'm awake. I think it's based on heart rate so I don't have to set it. It's pretty accurate most of the time. You still have the option of adjusting sleep times manually on the app too.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm sure you've figured this out already but I'll wrap this up just in case. Yes the Fitbit recognizes your sleep patterns. It automatically starts its recording when your movement significantly decreases within an hour and when your heart rate slows. If you have any issues with it doing this automatically (this isn't usual for the device but everyone's sleep patterns vary) you can manually put it into sleep mode. Once you wake up you can view how efficient your sleep was on your app and/computer dashboard. It will show if you awakened, were restless or asleep. It will also show the duration. Fitbit has created an equation that works automatically to help you figure out how efficient the sleep was for you. Keep in mind it isn't perfect but pretty accurate! In case you wonder it will do all the same automatically if you take a nap. Hope this helps!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It tracks sleep based on HR and movement I believe. It does it automatically. I have had to go in the app and delete activities they thought were sleep like sitting still at the movies for 2 hours.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It tracks it automatically. However, I think if you are really relaxed, laying down and not moving, and restful, that it sometimes thinks your asleep. It takes me awhile to fall asleep, but sometimes it seems to include this time, and sometimes not. Overall, this works great though automatically.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You don't have to tell it, it figures it out automatically for you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You don't have to set anything. It determines that you are asleep and then monitors your pattern.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can hit the button to go to sleep or it picks up on its own. I prefer that so I have an idea how long it takes to fall to sleep.
