the fitbit charge has a heart monitor but you just wear it on your wrist, no chest strap is involved which is why I like it

It does well for normal daily activity, but once you are moving around more like during a workout, it simply doesn't remain too accurate. I'd say off by about 5-10 beats per minute...which then throws off its calorie burning statistics. Normal activity tracking and heart rate is good, exercise tracking heart rate is not.

Although wrist HR monitors are less accurate, they are much more comfortable than wearing a chest strap all day, and are still accurate enough for at the gym even if your doctor wouldn't use one at your next checkup.

My Fitbit Charge HR works GREAT when I go running, it only works so/so for my P90X leg workouts, and it is rather inaccurate for my P90X upper body workouts. While it is flat out awesome with steady state exercise, it doesn't do well with any type of high intensity interval workouts. Definitely love it for all day heart rate tracking, also calculates your resting heart rate on a daily basis.
