Usually works 2 ways first example when using a wood screw it might be tight place so magnetite tip screwdriver will hold the screw on the screwdriver until the job is complete and also if you drop the screw or bolt you will be able to pick it up with the screwdriver. The demagnetized screwdriver is exposed to magnetic field but with a twist. Hope this helps thanks
