It will say three months but when you refresh your phone then you will see the expiration date which will be 6 months from the day you start the trail.

I had the same issue. It turns out the code is only for 3 months -- they want you to first sign up for a free trial for the other 3 (for a total of 6). Here's the clarification they emailed me:

"Please take note, first you need to claim first the 3 months free trial thru Apple website (no code needed). Second, redeem the additional 3 Months free using the code issued from Best Buy to get total of 6 months free trials for new subscriber only. Moving forward, old Apple account that is not yet subscribed to Apple Music can get 3 months trial however, old or new Apple account that has subscribed to apple music before can only get 3 months trial free instead. There should be an active credit card information in creating a new apple music account."

I got the code from Best Buy and when I entered it, Apple Music said 3 months. So I cancelled out of it and called the Best Buy tech support. They said it’s for new subscribers only. I said I am a new subscriber as I haven’t ever subscribed to Apple Music before. She said I must create a new Apple ID for it to work. I said that’s not the same as a new subscriber. And to create another Apple ID is a pain because all my apps and music I’ve previously bought are tied to my current Apple ID. In addition, if that’s really the case Best Buy should be clear that is what the requirements are for this trial.

Same thing happened to me. I redeemed the code and a pop up message said "Sept 2021". Yet, when I go into my Apple music account it says "June 2021". I refreshed my phone just like the commenter previously said to do and NOTHING.

If your Apple Id is enrolled in Itunes already, you are likely to get for 3 months only(although you are a new subscriber to Apple Music). I had the same problem. When I entered the code, my apple music was trying to sign in using my old Apple Id which is enrolled in Itunes. When I switched to my current Apple Id which was not enrolled in Itunes, I was asked to enroll first. After enrolling, I entered the code given by Best Buy in Apple Music to redeem and it worked - 6 months free Apple Music. Hope this works for you all.

I also entered the code from my receipt and only got 3 months rather than 6 and customer support couldn't even help me, they just wanted to email me another code, which you cannot redeem because you have already entered one.
