I believe if you don't sign on to Apple TV+ on your Apple TV that you won't get the free 3 months and they won't be able to charge you after you the 3 months have passed either since you haven't used the 3 free months. I'm not sure but as I recall I had to enter my Apple ID and Password on the Apple TV the first time I selected Apple TV+ from the menu on my Apple TV Device. As far as your feelings about not wanting anything you have to cancel yourself, I mostly agree with you... I don't want Apple Music Free for 3 months, I don't want Apple News+ Free for 3 months, etc for the same reasons you mention. However, if you like movies you might decide you like Apple TV+ enough to pay $ 9.95 a month ... know I did and decided to keep it since they do have some good shows. I used to believe their plan was simply to trick you into forgetting to cancel it once the 3 months have passed or making it hard for you to cancel it, but now I believe that is not their plan. Now I believe that they actually believe that you will enjoy it enough that you will want to keep it after 3 months. I know I did in the case of Apple TV+. I am still resisting Apple News+ even though there are stories I would be interested in reading and I actually find it very annoying when I see some story I would be interested in reading and it is labeled "Apple News + Required" But if you don't it actually find that you would want to keep these things after the 3 months, it is not that hard to cancel them. So if you forget and you get charged 1 time you could always use that one-time charge as a reminder to cancel. I've canceled things before and all you have to do it call AppleCare and the robotic assistant will say "If you are calling about charges on your account press (some number)" And when you get a person (at least in my experience) not only will they cancel future charges but if you ask them nicely and say that you forgot the trial period was over or some other reasonable excuse they will even refund the initial charge.
