• Hi Shona - The ice cubes are hard and we do not advise that you "chew" them as you will be at risk of cracking a tooth.

• No. Regular ice cubes but a little bit smaller than standard ice cubes from a tray or regular fridge. It seems that sonic ice makers jump really high in price. This seems to be the middle ground and we are quite happy with our purchase.
