• Best if it is but as long as you let it sit for 24 hours before you plug it in it’s fine

• Hi there. We do recommend to keep the appliance right side up. However, if transported on the side, the beverage center should be kept upright twice as long as it was on the side before plugging in. Hope this helps. ~ Anna
