• From what I've experienced it's only the compressor starting and cooling the freezer down due to the door being opened

• Hey, BBT0! The whistling sound on the model you selected is normal and cannot be turned off or down. The whistling is caused by air being forced through the freezer and condenser by the evaporator fan. ~Courtney
