Yes it does tremendously. I highly recommend getting a sleeve for it. I purchased this one from Amazon - GCGOODS Portable Air Conditioner Hose Cover Wrap, Insula... https://a.co/d/5F5hGlu The hose and connection points do give off a lot of radiant heat. This sleeve has been a godsend. As for draining…I have had it 3 weeks and basically have been running it 24/7 during the recent heat weaves. Haven’t had to drain it yet. It still collects condensation in AC mode (bottom drain). This drain will need to be drained before winter storage, at the very least.

Keep in mind the goal of your portable air conditioner is to cool your room. To cool your room, the AC extracts the heat energy from the air and blows the heat outdoors. Regarding Winter Storage, you would need to empty the condensate residue inside the unit during the winter. This requires a drip tray (not included) under the bottom drain outlet. Remove the rubber stopper from the drain outlet, to allow the condensate to flow into the drip tray. Replace the drain cap to the bottom drain outlet when no more condensate flows out. Store your AC unit until needed. ~ Christy
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do not insulate the hose but I make sure the blinds are closed in the same window. Otherwise the hose gets pretty hot...I just got my a/c about a month ago so it hasn't been stored for winter yet, but my daughter always drains hers before storing it
