For anyone else confused as to whether it's 8,000 BTU or 12,000 BTU, here's an explanation I found; "Portable air conditioners were originally labeled with the same BTU rating system as window air conditioners and wall AC units, but in 2018 manufacturers realized this led to an inaccurate assessment of the unit's cooling capabilities. When an air conditioner is cooling a room, the unit's cooling mechanism ends up emitting some heat. Unlike a window or wall unit, a portable air conditioner sits entirely inside a room, and some of the emitted heat ends up dissipating into the very space it's trying to cool. This means the room isn't getting as cool as the old ASHRAE rating indicates. The new DOE rating is more accurate because it takes into account the heat emitted by the exhaust on the portable AC. While the ASHRAE rating gives the hard numbers of the BTU output, the DOE rating is more of a "real-feel" rating. This means you can be sure your AC unit is more accurately rated, which means better cooling and greater efficiency."

This portable air conditioner is not equipped with a pump. Regarding the two different BTUs, the labeling on portable air conditioners must follow a new rule from the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) that requires a listing of the older, ASHRAE rating, as well as a new rating from the DOE (Department of Energy.) This new testing is meant to more accurately reflect the energy efficiency of all portable air conditioners. The new changes to the Energy Labeling Rule now require all portable air conditioners to list their cooling capacity based on ASHRAE standards (PDF). This is determined by the new energy efficiency testing procedures by the DOE. You may learn more about this ruling by visiting https://www.energy.gov/. We hope this helps! Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do not understand the answer to this question. So it is really 12000btu but is labeled 8000btu? Because of a new law? Because we have a unit that is 8000btu and it is not cooling the space so we want one that is 10,000 or 12,000. So getting another 8000 seems silly. Right ?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This one is 12000btu you must be looking at the ther one bestbuy has
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have had it running three weeks straight now and i have not had to drain any water. Works great.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought a pump to go with this and it never needed to kick in. I have run it for days on end and never saw more than a tablespoon of water.I kept the hose in a small cup, just in case, but 2 summers now with very little water.
