“My window is 38 inches wide- will the pleated side panels be big enough? If not is it possible to buy longer ones? What would you recommend? I”

It may not be long enough. If this is the case, simply measure the open space and head to your local home improvement store and many different alternatives can be found to "plug the open part" and still have it look nice. If you do go this route, buy some waterproof calk and seal it up to help avoid water from rain coming in.
