“Is there a protection plan available with this item? So far our Frigidaire that we bought at Best Buy has gone through about five icemakers in five years. It appears that these icemakers have a motor and gears or the sensor that are very poor quality. A protection plan that gave me a new one every time it conked out might be a solution.”

• Are you sure it's not your water supply? My municipal water has a chemical that gums up every faucet and valve, including the ice maker in my old refrigerator.
