“How much space do I need from a wall to the fridge cabinet to open the door 90 degrees? Exclude the handle since it is a short wall and the handle won't hit the wall. Do the hinges open away from the wall?”

I checked this with a tape measure after reading your question. I would safely assume 1 inch is enough between the side of the refrigerator " case / cabinet " and a wall for the doors to open to 90 degrees, I would also recommend more than that for ventilation. I hope this helps.
