A:Answer Flip your pan over and measure the actual burner contact area - on a frying pan this will be much less than the nominal diameter. My "10-inch" non-stick induction fry pan has a magnetized induction contact base of just six inches. And if you're not already using induction, you need to test the cooking surfaces of your cookware with a magnet. I had to buy all new non-stick fry pans and all new saucepans because out of all my cookware, only the carbon steel wok and cast iron pieces worked with induction (as an ordinary magnet correctly predicted).
