“Does the Mini 2 maintain its time and date when powered off or does it need the Garmin Drive app each time it's turned on to set the time and date?”

• It maintains it's time just fine, I don't know how, but it does. It does require the app. Setup for the device with the app is fine, but editing and offloading videos is a bad experience, unless you pop out the micro SD card.
