Max record time depends on the size of your SD card and the resolution you record at 64G at 1080p gives me about a week or recording (this will vary by how much you drive). You do have to format the SD when Inserted but it's fairly easy to do either on the camera or through your phone in the app.

Haven't actually looked through the recordings but was assured it would be greater than 45-minutes, which should be more than enough. And no re-formatting is required. Rather, it simply records over previous recording. To prevent that, you can either pop out the card, or simply tell the device to save (or record) a segment and that portion is saved and not recorded over. Lots of You Tube videos should you want to see.
