Info is from satellite to Garmin device; Not sure what 'box' you are reading re 'car compatibility' - is it the box in which a Garmin GPS system is packaged? Didn't find anything in the usage book (can be found via PDF) online re any car restrictions, but may have missed something. In any case - doesn't make sense to me. Check with Best Buy's Geeks if doubt remaining.
