• No activation or programming is needed. Simply plug in the traffic receiver and the Garmin device will route around accidents, construction and other obstacles to save you time.

• Traffic has to be in your unit first. Mine came with lifetime map and traffic updates. Not sure if you can add it to an existing unit but can't imagine why you couldn't.
