• My gps seems to hold a charge about half hour. However, it can be charged indoors. You don't need the car.

• This depends on whether or not your vehicle's power port is always on. However, there are three ways to charge the battery: connect to the vehicle power cable that came with your device, use an AC power adapter or connect to a powered-on computer with a USB cable.
