I am looking for a GPS unit for my dad and he does not have a smart phone or computer. Does this unit do traffic updates by itself or do you need a phone to tie to it. Also does this unit update maps by itself or do you need a computer. Work for dad ?. null

Please go to the Garmin website and read all there is about the Garmin DriveSmart™ 65 & Traffic. I've had this for some time now and really like it. I do also have a computer and a smart phone which I do link to it so I have access to all it has to offer but will work just fine without.

You need a computer for the map updates, to update maps you have to have access to Garmin’s website.
