No, not at all (as long as you're not trying to put it into your dashboard for some reason like a factory installed GPS). You just plug it in to a power source in your vehicle (the old cigarette lighter recepticles for us old folks). Then either affix it to the suction arm and use the suction arm to affix it to your window where it doesn't impair your view of the road/surroundings. (Personally I've always used a weighted stand and I recommend purchasing the weighted stand that has a connection arm permanently attached to the stand (~ $25). My old Garmin would slide off my dashboard when using my old mount upon abrupt acceleration or turning. I haven't had that problem so far with the new mount.)
