• A basemap is a very basic map, which only includes state/country borders and sometimes major highways. A detailed map contains all of the address, points of interest, street, speed limit, directional, and other information needed for the device to navigate. The nuvi 2539LMT comes preloaded with detailed mapping of North America. -MH
