• Yes, it will show distance for open water or pool swimming. Pool Swim Metrics include: (LENGTHS, DISTANCE, PACE, STROKE COUNT, SWIM EFFICIENCY (SWOLF), CALORIES) If you go to support.garmin.com you'll find many helpful FAQ's and video's on the functions of the device. Debbie with Garmin

• Not so much. But it does give an amazing amount of data re your swim. Total distance, but also as you pause to change disciplines it will keep track of each of your legs, applications, etc. give you stats for your fastest 100, average 100 for each interval as well as your entire swim. It also gives you data on how many strokes per 100 and avg. length of stroke. It does a great job of tracking heart rate during the swim even without the chest strap. It also has an application to time drills for 25, 50, 100 m
