Do you need a smart phone? null

It works best with a smartphone. You would need to log on to the Garmin website and manually sync if you didn’t have one. I think you also need the app to change settings.

I had to buy an Ant-stick to make it work...I do not have a smart phone.

The vivofit 3 is designed so that it can be used with a smartphone to sync and view the data, but a smartphone is not required. The device will function in a basic mode out of the box, or can be set up using a computer. There is a program called Garmin Express (www.garmin.com/express) that would allow the device to be set up using a computer. An ANT stick is required to set up the vivofit 3 with a computer and can be purchased separately.
