“My son wants to change his "display text" from the original name he put in to a new nickname, but when he syncs his band with the app the band display name doesn't change. Is there an issue with syncing, or is he unable to change it?”

When you go into settings not only do you need to update profile name but also “display text”. This will change the name on the watch.
