The vivosmart displays/tracks steps, calories, distance and time of day without the use of your Smartphone. However smart notifications will only be available when connected with your compatible Smartphone via Bluetooth. The following FAQ indicates how often you should sync your vivosmart http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={19701510-98e7-11e3-d5f4-000000000000}&kbName=garmin ~QKO

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. I don't sync mine to a phone at all and only sync it to the computer once every couple of days to upload the data to the Garmin Connect website and it's all there when I plug it in. I've stretched that out to a week, but not longer than that. I'm not 100% sure how much storage space there is on the internal memory, but I'd say if you're just disconnecting if for a week or two your data will be safe.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can. Actually, it is better for your battery life to sync two or three times a day and keep the bluetooth off when not syncing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the vivosmart can stand alone it does not have to be connected to your phone all the time. It would have to be synced before midnight because that is when it resets for the next day. It does function as a clock and alarm clock. Keeps track of steps, miles walked, calories burned, steps left to meet your goal for the day right on the band. You can also control your music on your phone from it. It does pretty much everything without having to be connected to the phone.
