I use my Vivoactive for bike rides and hikes without my phone. I just sync with the Garmin Connect app when I get home. The app only offers map view, satellite view, or a hybrid view. When I tried a hybrid view I didn't see a difference between that and the satellite view.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can wear the watch for your workout without having your phone with you. Once you end and save your workout on the watch it will let you know that your activity was saved to the Garmin Connect app on your phone. (Garmin Connect App is needed to use the watch.) When you view the activity in the Garmin Connect app you can see the map of your run. I do not believe it can show your trail run on a topographic map, but it does show the Elevation. You can also overlay your pace on the elevation map to show where you either increased or decreased.

You can download after the activity has been saved by either syncing with the phone or downloading with your computer. There is a satellite image available for viewing the activity as long as GPS is used. Debbie with Garmin
