• The device is to be worn all of the time so wear it in the shower and can't say that it performs any worse because of that. The size of the child's wrist would be the determining factor on fit. It does need to be snug.

• Yes he can swim with it. It is rated for I believe around 136 feet. The small band that comes with it should work just fine for your grandson.

• Yes, definitely works with swimming. By son has worn his nonstop for the last 6 months. He uses the small wrist band and it fits very well and isn't even on the smallest hole settings.
