• It's both plastic and elastic. The monitor itself across your chest is plastic with a backing so that it's not uncomfortable against your skin. The band has some stretch to it and is adjustable to fit all body types.

• It is an elastic band, but has a "plastic" monitor that sits in the middle of your chest. Very comfortable, & adjustable.
