700 watts equals 5.8 amps. Why do the specs say 9.3 amps? null

Hi DonB - The microwave cooking wattage is 700 ((IEC-705). POWER / RATINGS: Electrical Input - 120V Amperage= 9.3; Electrical Input - 120V Watts= 1050; Volts/Hertz= 120V; 60Hz. Keep in touch! Sue

The higher rating is provided due to a inrush current required to get the magnatron to emit the 2.41GHz beam. Once the emission is established then your current requirement drops to the value you specified. I hope his helps a bit. It’s kind of like when you turn something on that uses an electric motor, the initial startup current is much higher than during regular load.
