If this microwave is placed on a shelf how deep must the shelf be if the plug is located behind the microwave? Need to consider the depth of the microwave but also how close you can get it to the back wall because of the plug. Plug is not flat. null

The microwave needs about 15 to 18 inches to sit on. I installed an outlet in the cabinet above the microwave.

Hi Stan- Thanks for viewing! The microwave is approximately 15 5/8" deep (Approximate Product Dimensions (WxHxD) (in.) 20 5/16 in x 12 in x 15 5/8 in). Microwaves need adequate air clearance on each side, the rear and the top to function properly. This allows good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents. Countertop Models: 3" of clearance on both sides and the top and 1" clearance in the rear (this will allow room for plug). Also, the front edge of the microwave (measured at door) should sit at least 3" or more back on the counter or shelf to avoid accidental tipping. Thanks for checking with us! Sue@GE
