I don't understand why so many microwaves don't have the light come on when the door is open. It's one of the reasons I bought this one.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Control Panel is not illuminated in any manner - only the clock/countdown timer is LED lit. It is difficult to impossible to do anything from control panel other than to press the bottom right button, which turns on @ 30 seconds and also adds 30 seconds to countdown timer once it's already running. This is unfortunate since is transforms an otherwise OK name-brand $99 MW oven into a real cheap MW. You need a well lit room, plus MW located at eye level since the buttons/font are so small, to actually do anything with this oven. My guess is an illuminated control pad would add < $5 cost to this unit. Sad.
