QuestionCan you use the timer at the same time time the food is being cooked with the cook timer?The GE microwave JVM1540DMWW that we have right now we can use the timer at the same time we are using the microwave. Some microwaves do not have this ability and we want to get the same feature and were wondering if this GE model has the same feature.

- Answer Hello Captgeb - this is Nancy at GE. We're sorry to hear that your microwave is not working properly and I am happy to help you with a great replacement model. The good news is that all of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66" min. mounting height). The height and depth of the models may vary slightly, but any of our new models could work in your current space. A model that you may like is the JVM6175DFWW. You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. - Answer This model can vent to the outdoors but does not have to. - Answer Yes, the template should be trimmed down according to the cabinet it is being installed on. The template states: 1. Fit template to bottom of upper cabinet. If cabinet bottom has a frame around it, measure frame thickness and trim along edges A, B, C, and D as needed to make up for frame thickness. Trim lines for ½”, ¾” or 1” frame thickness are on template.

- Answer You'll need to select Cook Time on the control panel and then input the seconds that you would like to set for your cooking time. Also, by pressing the Add 30 Sec pad will add 30 seconds to the time counting down each time the pad is pressed. -Don@GEAppliances
