• A:Answer Hi Joe - The mounting plate is exactly the size of the microwave, so the width is the overall width (29 7/8") and the height is the "rear" dimension height (16 1/2"). • A:Answer Hi Herb - Model is JVM3160RFSS 29 7/8" wide. All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. We no longer offer a 36" wide over-the-range model. If you are replacing a 36" over-the-range microwave, many current 30" over-the-range microwaves offer an optional 36" filler kit to allow it to be installed in a 36" cut-out opening. If available, the filler kit will be listed in the product specifications. This model is not compatible with a 36" filler kit. GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven JVM6172SKSS is compatible with Optional 36" Side Filler Panel Kit JX36CSS (sold separately). Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com - Sue

• A:Answer It is 30 " wide and fit in the space perfectly. It did require tearing down the old mounting bracket and putting in the new one (which I had hoped to not have to do). We are quite happy with it.

Q: QuestionHello there we just purchased this microwave and i cant really see inside of it while food is cooking. Are we supposed to peel off the the plastic layer on the inside door? Its seems like its supposed to come off but, im just not sure.

Q: QuestionMy microwave is working hasn't tripped the breaker however it is no longer getting heat. After further research I see we may need to replace the magnetron and something else, however I cant figure out what kind of magnetron I need. Please help. Thanks.

• A:Answer Hi Haileyoo- We are sorry to hear your microwave is not heating and suggest to make sure the “Timer” function was not inadvertently used. Check to ensure the door is closed firmly. Close it firmly, but do not slam. This confirms the engagement of the door's safety mechanisms. Reset the microwave electronics by turning off power at the circuit breaker for 30 seconds or so. For safety reasons, we offer no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to an internal high voltage capacitor (can hold a high voltage charge even after it has been unplugged). Special equipment is generally needed to make a diagnosis. If the above suggestions do not solve the problem and the microwave still won't heat, we recommend contacting service. Q: QuestionHello. Does this microwave have inset hinges so it can open against a wall? My microwave and stove are flush against a wall on the left and the door has to open no wider than the unit.

• A:Answer My microwave has inset hinges on the left, so the door opens from the right side of the unit to the left. When the door is opened fully, it appears the door would extend past the left wall of the unit by approximately 1/4 of an inch. If you install your unit flush to the left side wall, it appears the unit's door would hit the wall by a quarter of an inch and not open fully. Hope this helps? My microwave is installed forward of the wall and therefore the door clears the wall.

Q: QuestionHow do you turn the reset button light off for the filter.Pushing the button for three seconds or making a hard reset does not work. There is obviously a design error in the circuitry I wish GE would do something about it or replace the Microwave

Q: QuestionI have a GE over the range microwave that has stopped heating things up. The model number is JVM1540SM5SS. I'm looking at replacing it with another GE unit model # JVM3160RFSS. Any changes required to venting, mounting hardware etc?

While the venting is the same, when replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. Also, if installed for recirculating (non-vent), Charcoal Filter JX81L is included. • A:Answer Hi John - The microwave can be easily converted to recirculating (non-vent). Recirculating Charcoal Filter JX81L is included. Since the microwave will be converted to recirculating and not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through the disposable charcoal filter that helps remove smoke and odors. The vent is located on top, just above the door.
