Hi Robin- This is a gravity drain model that must have a building drain connection below the level of the drain tube at the back of the cabinet. A pump can be installed, which can force drain water up a max. of 10 feet, allowing it to be located where a gravity drain isn't available- Optional Ice Maker Drain Pump Kit (UPK3) sold separately. See page 6 of the Installation Guide: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-60744-4.PDF - Keep in touch! Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. It pumps out excess water
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We are also installing this in our kitchen. Our understanding is that the pump is necessary to pump out any excess water unless you have a gravity drain at its location. Also, our contractor is using a different water line from the sink to the ice maker as he says the plastic tubing kinks. (We are having it built in with cabinets). I hope this helps.
