- Answer Hi rainy-this is Sue from GE Appliances. Silver is a painted finish that looks like stainless. It is a cost effective alternative for a stainless look in the kitchen. Also, it is easy to clean and does not show fingerprints or smudges. Use soap and water to clean. The handle is smooth, durable black plastic. Thanks for checking with us!

- Answer Hello Door - The handle/opening direction can be reversed on this model. There are detailed steps for this in the installation instructions for the unit. -TREY@GEA

Yes, a water line is required for the factory-installed icemaker. Also, the door swing is reversible for flexible installation (it is assembled with the hinges on the right- opens left to right). Also, if a water line is not available, you might be interested in GE® ENERGY STAR® 17.5 CU. FT. TOP-FREEZER REFRIGERATOR GTE18GSHSS without the factory- installed icemaker (It is equipped for an optional icemaker IM4D sold separately). Thanks for checking with us!
