Hi there, and thanks for your interest in this top-freezer refrigerator! The refrigerator will come from the factory on a setting of 3. If you want a colder temperature, you can turn the knob clockwise to the 4 or 5 setting. If you need the refrigerator warmer, turn the knob counter-clockwise to 1 or 2. If you ever need to turn off the cooling in both compartments, there is also an Off option on the knob.
