• "Open box" can mean as little as opened in the store, then put back in the box, unused, for resale. Maybe returned because it dint' fix, but hopefully never actually used with water. Check with salesman.

• Open box means just that: new, but out of the box. It may be scratched or dented, but still operating as new.
